New Zealand 7s season drawing to a close
Rugby sevens reaches into the heart of provincial New Zealand with tournaments in Waipukurau and Rahotu this weekend.The oneday tournaments, to find the champion clubs in Hawkes Bay and Taranaki respectively, bring to a close the New Zealand sevens season, whilst also act as a useful preseason run for many players preparing for fifteenaside.The Hawkes Bay Sevens at Central Park Waipukurau, 80 km from Napier, caters for forty teams in three separate competitions mens, colts and womens. The major Hawkes Bay clubs are regular visitors and Havelock North will look to retain the Baker Cup which is presented for the 29th time on Saturday. read
Pools for new look Hong Kong 7s announced
The official draw has been held for the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, round six of the HSBC Sevens World Series to be played on 2325 March 2012 at the Hong Kong Stadium.With the event doubling up in 2012 as the HSBC Sevens World Series core team qualifier, the renowned Hong Kong event will play host to two 12team competitions played side by side at the 40,000capacity venue.One competition will feature the current 12 HSBC Sevens World Series core teams, who were drawn into three pools A, B and C. The other competition features 12 teams from across the six IRB rugby regions, who will play for three additional core team places in the 2012/13 World Series and were drawn into pools D, E and F. read
USA 7s to break broadcasting records
This year the television coverage of the USA Sevens, round five of the HSBC Sevens World Series, will reach a wider TV audience than ever before.The event, to be staged in Las Vegas for the third time, will be shown live or delayedlive by a record 17 international broadcasters and reach over 220 million homes in over 110 countries.Aired live in the States by host broadcaster NBC, the Sevens is set to benefit from around 200 hours of overseas live airtime, up nearly 50 on the 2011 figure. read
